I did something :)
My apologies for a few quiet weeks. I was doing something hard.
I’m part of the Kids Comics Unite group. It’s an online community of comic artists that specialize in kids books. They have a pitch contest and I just submitted my graphic novel.
Why was it hard?
Well, I spent the better part of a year trying to get my one story idea to work, it’s not ready. It will come, but this moment is not the time. So I chose another that I wrote on the train one morning, and a nice little story emerged into a fully-formed idea.
The hard part for me is writing all the other stuff (about myself) like a bio, a synopsis, and additionally my “why.”
The other hard part? Rewriting the story to ensure that the submitted portion was an interesting and engaging part that would draw readers in.
The showcase of winners is announced in April, and I won’t share much before that. But I can say that I challenged myself, ran up against a deadline on Friday at 11 am Chicago time, with only three complete pages. By some website error fluke/christmas miracle, the deadline was extended. And with 2-1/2 hours to spare, I clicked on SUBMIT and then saw this:
And seeing that was the result of me putting myself and my passion first. I fought hard to keep up with this project and to ignore the random doubtful thoughts which can sometimes be so intrusive that they completely debilitate me. I refused to let it happen because I have a story I want to tell, and it’s about damn time I start telling them. Thanks for being part of that. And now back to your scheduled program. (Monty Python fans, you know what ro visualize right now)
Here’s my latest self portrait:
Thank you ❤️

Congrats and good luck! I am going to go look up Kids Comics Unite now. Never heard of them until now. Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing how it all progresses!
Congrats Sara! Wooohoooo!
